There are various methods used to treat opioid use disorder, but evidence shows patients who take safe, FDA-approved medications that help alleviate withdrawal symptoms along with substance use counseling have a significantly higher chance of reaching and staying in recovery.

MAT programs at AppleGate Recovery use medications that contain a combination of buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine is a partial agonist that stimulates the brain’s opioid receptors without causing a euphoric sensation while also creating a ceiling effect making it more difficult to misuse. Naloxone is a full opioid antagonist that blocks other opioids entering the system by causing immediate withdrawal symptoms should opioid misuse occur. Together they work to alleviate uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms in the patient when taken as directed while also providing a safety net and relapse deterrent.

The buprenorphine medications AppleGate Recovery prescribes to patients are decided on by skilled and specialized medical providers. They include Suboxone®, Bunavail®, and Zubsolv®. All of these medications contain a combination of buprenorphine and naloxone.
