Suboxone is a medication that combines buprenorphine with the opiate antagonist known as naloxone. Naloxone attaches to the brain’s opioid receptors, but it doesn’t activate them at all. Instead, it entirely blocks opioids from attaching to the receptors and creating any euphoric feelings.

Because buprenorphine on its own has the potential for misuse, many people take Suboxone to avoid the risk of abuse. Not only will Suboxone not produce any opioid effect, but it will also cause immediate withdrawal symptoms if someone tries to misuse it through injection — an effective deterrent to reduce misuse.

Buprenorphine is an opioid, but it works differently than opioids like heroin and oxycodone. This medication is a partial opioid agonist, which is an opioid that attaches to the brain’s opioid receptors and activates them to a far lesser degree than most other opioids. By fastening itself to these receptors, it prevents other opioids from attaching and causing euphoria.

When taken correctly, buprenorphine can lessen the effects of withdrawal, including your cravings for opioids. Then, you can better focus on other aspects of your recovery.

Individual Counseling

This helps you work through past trauma, learn relapse prevention strategies and set goals for your recovery process. Counseling will also encourage you to create support systems and learn positive coping skills. At the Crestview Hills location, we offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy.

Convenient appointment times are available! We offer in-office and virtual visits as well as evening appointments.

Targeted Case Management is a service that assesses your needs, develops a care plan, and coordinates that care to ensure you have access to the support and resources required to meet your unique needs. You will work collaboratively with your case manager to identify priority actions/services needed in your life and create a plan to address those issues first, while also looking toward longer-term goals.
